Ch. 1Tang Tang died, then was reborn again.
Plot points and events
- Tang Tang has died and been reborn ten times, each life ending before age twenty-seven. Across her lives, she learns that the Tang patriarch had her abandoned as a newborn after a fortune-teller called her ill-fated.
- Her birth mother, Su Xiajing, never meets her and later dies by suicide after her husband betrays her with her stepsister. The girl raised in Tang Tang’s place is actually her stepmother’s biological daughter, and she repeatedly contributes to Tang Tang’s deaths.
- Exhausted by repeated failure and death, Tang Tang enters an eleventh life expecting to do nothing but survive. This time, however, she is reborn as a newborn while Su Xiajing is still alive.
- Tang Tang’s thoughts reveal that the Tang Family’s butler and nanny are about to take her away before Su Xiajing wakes. Just as the nanny holds the baby, Su Xiajing wakes and asks what they are doing.
- Su Xiajing hears Tang Tang’s thoughts, realizes the baby is speaking to her, and looks at her. Tang Tang is delighted to see her mother, warns her inwardly about her husband and stepsister, and then falls asleep.
