Chen Xiwan abruptly raised her head, her trembling eyes filled with hurt and disbelief. She bit her lower lip in grievance, then paused for several seconds before speaking in a tearful voice:
"No matter how much you dislike me, there's no need to humiliate me like this, is there? What proof do you have that the baby I'm carrying isn't your older brother's? Is Lu Xunli suspicious of me, so he sent you to sound me out first?!"
By the last sentence, Chen Xiwan sounded even closer to tears. As she shouted, she stepped forward, looking as though she intended to grab the hem of Lu Xiaoxiao's clothes.
"Whoa, whoa, whoa! Wait, wait-stop! Stay right there, okay? We need to keep a safe distance."
Seeing Chen Xiwan grow increasingly agitated, her chest even beginning to heave, Lu Xiaoxiao's first instinct was to take a big step back. Then she raised both hands in something like a gesture of surrender, making it clear that she hadn't touched her at all.
