Early that morning, Chen Xiwan sat up in bed almost the instant she heard the door to her room open.
"Hello, could you tell me... are the Lu family still not planning to come see me?" she asked urgently, clutching the caregiver's uniform.
It was already the seventh day after her surgery. In all that time, Chen Xiwan had seen no one except the caregiver. She was not allowed to leave her hospital room, her phone was nowhere to be found, and she had no way to contact the outside world. Being kept under house arrest without knowing anything was nearly driving her mad.
But no matter what she asked, the caregiver never explained anything beyond her physical condition. She simply instructed her to rest in a businesslike manner and claimed to know nothing about anything else.
By now, Chen Xiwan's unease had reached its peak.
If something was wrong... why were the Lu family still letting her stay in such a luxurious private hospital room? But if everything was fine, why had no one come to visit her all this time? Not a single person had even come to settle accounts with her!
Before deciding to frame Lu Yubai, Chen Xiwan had imagined several possible outcomes, both good and bad. In the best-case scenario, Lu Xunli would feel terribly guilty that his younger brother had caused her miscarriage, compensate her, and marry her immediately. The worst case was merely that Lu Yubai would stubbornly deny it and argue with her. As long as she could cry to Lu Xunli behind closed doors, she would eventually smooth things over.
But now, none of the scenarios she had rehearsed were of any use.
Everything was eerily quiet, and Chen Xiwan's heart would not stop pounding.
