Shen Yangge froze where he stood. He looked at the young woman, then at Shen Mother, utterly confused.
Shen Mother gently took his hand and led him over to sit at the stone table. After carefully studying his face, she said with aching concern:

"Yang'er, I know you two siblings have never gotten along, even as children. But no matter what, Heqian is your own younger sister. She has nowhere else to go now. If you won't look after her, she'll have to fend for herself."
