After passing along the meal order, Shen Yangge turned and headed back the way he had come. On the way, he caught sight of the courtyard's open gate out of the corner of his eye. Two children in ragged clothes stood outside, keeping watch.
When he turned to look, the two children hurried away like startled birds. He raised an eyebrow slightly.
Since entering the city, aside from a few beggars and some elderly people and women lying by the roadside with severe cases of the plague, he had hardly seen any children.
There was quite a lot of mud on the children's feet and trouser legs. They did not look like city dwellers.
