Haiping Hotel was just as it had been before, its lobby still crowded in the evening.
Hua Jian followed Bo Lin up to the top floor, looking sheepish.
"Which room?" Bo Lin asked him.
Hua Jian turned to look in one direction. "Over there."
The carpet swallowed their footsteps, and Hua Jian suddenly began to regret coming.

He followed Bo Lin in silence, and they soon reached Room 1101.
With his mind in turmoil, he completely failed to notice that Bo Lin had found the right room without needing directions.
After they spoke to the manager, the attendant who had followed them hurried over to open the door and left them the key card.
"You first." Bo Lin looked at Hua Jian, his expression impassive.
Hua Jian pressed his lips together and pushed open the door.
In truth, he had no memory of this room at all.
That night, he had been drugged and hadn't been wearing his glasses. He had collapsed onto the bed as soon as he entered, so nothing here was familiar.
Like a timid little wife, he entered the room and huddled silently against the wall.
And so he failed to notice the nostalgia and emotion in Bo Lin's eyes as he surveyed the room.
"Tell me. What did you two do?"
Bo Lin's voice pronounced Hua Jian's death sentence.
