Yū used his abilities to protect his new family, befriend Naruto, and disrupt the events threatening Konoha. The arc ended with Yū and his friends detonating explosive tags in the village’s Cesspools, spreading sewage through Konoha and generating vast amounts of resentment.

• Hiruzen brought Yū to the Hyuga Clan, where Hizashi accepted him as his son, and Hiashi ultimately spared him the Caged Bird Seal after Yū chose to stay with Hizashi.
• Yū used the Book of the Gods to warn Hiashi about Hinata’s abduction, helping Hiashi capture the Kumogakure attacker and prevent Hizashi’s foretold death.
• Hizashi trained Yū in Gentle Fist, and Yū mastered its fundamentals quickly before starting at the Ninja Academy and befriending Naruto.
• Yū defended Naruto from classmates and Mizuki, discovered Mizuki’s plan to use Naruto to steal the Scroll of Seals, and encouraged Iruka to recognize Naruto’s hardship.
• Yū impressed Ebisu by copying basic ninjutsu after one demonstration, while Naruto revealed his own ability to use the Multiple Shadow Clone Technique.
• Yū brought Neji, Naruto, and Hinata together to plant explosive tags in Konoha’s five Cesspools, and the group began the operation under cover of night.
• Yū entered the Uchiha compound, planted explosive tags, and warned Shisui that Danzo planned to take his eye, while Naruto and Hinata evaded Shibi Aburame and Neji escaped the Akimichi boys.
• Yū and his friends detonated the tags, flooding parts of Konoha with sewage, and Yū watched the residents’ misery produce hundreds of thousands of Resentment Bats.

Yu helped Itachi pursue a peaceful resolution to the Uchiha conflict while guiding Naruto and his classmates through pranks, contests, and growing friendships. Naruto admitted his fear of the Nine-Tails and agreed to train with Yu at a hidden mountain base as Fugaku and Itachi prepared for negotiations.

• Danzo tried to take Shisui’s eye, but Shisui escaped after fighting Root and then awakened Itachi’s Mangekyō Sharingan before leaving to infiltrate Akatsuki.
• Fugaku and Itachi pursued negotiations with Konoha, and Yu gave Itachi a draft civil code and urged him to aim for the position of Hokage.
• Yu won his shuriken contest with Sasuke, accidentally accessed the Eight Gates, and later used his powers to rescue Iruka and stop Naruto’s Nine-Tails rampage.
• Yu and Itachi discussed the Uchiha crisis, and Itachi gained an enhanced Susanoo after swallowing Yu’s vermilion Pill.
• Yu brought Naruto, Sasuke, Hinata, Neji, and Sakura together for games, where Naruto and Sasuke accidentally kissed and Naruto later kissed Hinata.
• Naruto admitted to Yu that he feared losing control of the Nine-Tails and hurting his friends, then promised to become strong enough to protect them.
