"The world of Genjutsu is as fleeting as a dream. Sooner or later, the day comes when you wake up."
"But what if you never woke from that dream, and could immerse yourself in that world forever?"
"Then what difference would there be between the world of Genjutsu and the real world?"
"Perhaps the world you and I inhabit is itself a dream. We only regard it as real because we never wake up," the Nightmare Lord said.
The greatest difference between a real world and a false one was that, sooner or later, you would wake from the false one.
But if that false world continued to exist forever...
Then was that world real or false?
"So, are you researching a Genjutsu that can trap everyone in a dream forever, never to wake up?" Zhou Fan asked.
The Nightmare Lord shook his head. "I did research that kind of Genjutsu before-a Genjutsu that could immerse the entire world in an illusion from which no one would ever wake."
"And I did succeed. My Genjutsu can immerse people in a world of illusion forever. Without outside interference, they won't wake up. They can keep living wonderful lives within the illusion."
"But that differs from my true goal. This Genjutsu still hasn't achieved what I want."
Zhou Fan frowned slightly. "So your goal is to trap the entire world in your Genjutsu?"
The Nightmare Lord shook his head. "No. My goal is to immerse myself in Genjutsu, in a dream from which I'll never wake."
"But I still can't do it. My Genjutsu can immerse others in dreams from which they never wake, but it can't do the same for me."
There was a hint of regret and sorrow in his voice.
He only wanted to immerse himself in a dream.
