It was a vast, empty, dimly lit alternate dimension composed of countless enormous cubic stone pillars and platforms.
Oppressive, silent, lonely.
On a high, square stone platform, ripples spread through space. Obito Uchiha pulled Nagato out of a vortex and landed on the stone surface.
Nagato panted weakly. Forcing his head up, he fixed his Rinnegan, worn by overexertion and grief, on the man in the spiral mask beside him. His voice was hoarse, but his question was sharp:
"You... you're Obito Uchiha, aren't you?"
Obito's brow seemed to twitch beneath his mask. His exposed right eye glanced at Nagato, and he answered flatly, betraying no emotion. "That's me. Looks like... that Naruto fellow doesn't know when to keep his mouth shut."
White Zetsu had already told Obito what the two had said during their earlier battle, so Nagato knowing his identity was no surprise. But he couldn't let Nagato know he had been watching him all along.
Even if Nagato might already know, Obito still had to pretend he didn't know that Nagato knew. They would have to keep working together behind a facade of cooperation, so there was no point in bringing it up now.
Obito wanted the fruits of victory, not to become a skeleton like Nagato.
Yet the instant those words left his mouth, Obito froze!
He had clearly sensed something within this Kamui Dimension, a realm that should have been entirely under his control, sealed off from the outside world and accessible only through his Mangekyō Sharingan.
An immensely powerful chakra signature, deeply familiar yet carrying an unfamiliar pressure that made his heart tremble, had forcibly invaded without warning!
