"So that's how it is. You look like you're enjoying yourself, too."
Young Naruto noticed Boruto's awkwardness and Sarada's little gestures, and understood.
He did not point it out. Instead, he went along with Boruto's explanation and gave him an understanding smile.
He stepped forward, casually draped an arm around Boruto's shoulders, and led him aside. With his back to Sarada, Mitsuki, Otohime, and the others, he acted as though he wanted a private word.
"Come on, Boruto, help me find my wallet. I couldn't feel it just now." As Young Naruto spoke, he made a show of patting himself down, though he actually pulled a bulging wallet from inside his clothes.
He opened it and took out a thick stack of high-denomination bills, his movements quick and discreet.
"But you know, Boruto..."
Young Naruto lowered his voice so only the two of them could hear. "A boy needs a little money on him. Money gives a man confidence. It might sound crass, but sometimes it really does help." His tone was casual, as though he were simply passing on some life advice.
Boruto lowered his voice as well, speaking quietly but earnestly through the mesh of his mascot head. "Mr. Yōya, I appreciate your kindness. But I really can't accept it. Besides... I'm not actually here just to work a part-time job."
He paused, seemingly unsure whether to say more. But remembering that Young Naruto was someone he could trust, and that he seemed to have already guessed something, he continued:
"Actually... our team received a B-rank mission yesterday. We're on that mission right now."
"A B-rank mission?" Young Naruto raised an eyebrow. "Is the target a ninja?"
"We heard he's a creep who secretly takes pictures of people, and he likes stealing their things, too. He's pretty skilled.
