Unable to find her, they could only stand there fretting.
"No! We'll split up and search again. We can't let the Two-Tails fall into Konoha's hands," a black-clad Jonin said.
The others exchanged glances and nodded. "All right."
With that, the three scattered in different directions, their figures gradually disappearing into the jungle.
"Mmm." Even after the sounds died away, Chengxin remained motionless beneath the boulder, afraid they might double back again. As a member of ANBU, she had exceptional self-control and could conceal her presence for an entire day without moving an inch.
She planned to stay there for the rest of the day. This area was close to Konoha, and she was sure the Kumogakure ninja wouldn't dare linger too long.
While she was thinking, several whistles cut through the air, and the three figures reappeared atop the boulder.
"Argh! Damn it! Did that person really get away?" The black-clad Jonin stamped his feet in fury, making the boulder thud.
Hidden beneath it, Chengxin felt as though her heart were about to leap out of her chest.
"Calm down, Third," the blue-clad Jonin urged. He cupped his chin, analyzing what had happened. "They must have some way to conceal themselves, or some kind of Ninjutsu that lets them teleport."
"Oh? Lan Lu, did you discover something?" the black-clad Jonin asked.
The Jonin named Lan Lu shook his head helplessly. "What could I possibly do? If either of those explanations is right, there's no way we'll find them."
With a soft sigh, he spread his hands. "Let's stop wasting time here. We'd be better off searching the surrounding area to see if we can find them. We're close to Konoha. Their ninja will probably be here soon."
