Background / History
Teaching Career and Demotion
Zhou Yi secured a teaching position at Shrek Academy at thirty-eight through her husband Fan Yu’s connections. Her bad temper later led to her demotion from teaching upper-year students to teaching first-years 7.
According to her former student Tang Ya, Zhou Yi maintained the highest Inner Court advancement rate by removing students unlikely to advance. Tang Ya herself became an expulsion target because of her weak cultivation and Blue Silver Grass martial soul; Bei Bei’s intervention helped her remain enrolled 19.
Confrontation During Admissions
While inspecting new-student enrollment, Zhou Yi interrupted Du Weilun’s discussion with Chu Ge, who was applying for a teaching position. Already angry about her demotion, she dismissed Chu Ge as a “wet-behind-the-ears brat” and questioned his right to teach at Shrek 7.
She continued despite Du Weilun’s objections. Chu Ge confronted her and approached under an intimidating aura, causing her to tremble and faint without being touched. Du Weilun apologized, but privately warned Chu Ge that Fan Yu’s standing and allies could make retaliation possible 8.
After learning what had happened, Yan Shaozhe ordered Du Weilun to investigate and promised to remove both Zhou Yi and her husband from their posts 10.
Freshman Class One
Huo Yudie and Tang Wutong were assigned to Zhou Yi’s class. Before lessons began, Tang Ya warned them about her expulsion practices and explained that students feared being accused of slandering Shrek if they complained 18 19.
During the first lesson, Zhou Yi asked who had fought since registration. When nobody stood up, she ordered the entire class to run one hundred laps around Shrek Square within two hours, threatening to expel anyone who failed. She used her Soul Emperor aura to force compliance 20.
Yudie and Wutong refused to run. Zhou Yi threatened to expel them before even asking their names, and Wutong openly challenged her fitness to teach. Chu Ge intervened when Zhou Yi’s Soul Power began overwhelming Wutong 20.
Dismissal and Loss of Support
Zhou Yi claimed the running punishment was a fitness test intended for the students’ benefit. Her appeal to Du Weilun failed: he withdrew, knowing that her dismissal paperwork was already being prepared. Chu Ge then repeatedly slapped her, continuing despite her threats to invoke Fan Yu until she begged him to stop 21.
Chu Ge subsequently demanded her approval to satisfy a system mission. Her first concession did not register; after another slap, she repeated her approval and the system awarded him nine Soul Power Experience Pills. Humiliated before her students, Zhou Yi canceled class and left, threatening further consequences 22.
Yan Shaozhe gave Chu Ge her dismissal letter and declared that she would never be rehired. His investigation documented approximately eighty arbitrary expulsions, prompting Qian Duoduo to withdraw his defense of her and reconsider Fan Yu’s position 22 25.
Fan Yu initially intended to avenge her, having believed her account. After Qian Duoduo disclosed her misconduct and use of his reputation, he confronted her. When she again demanded justice, he slapped her and cast her out, furious that her actions had endangered him 25.
Teaching Methods and Misconduct
- Selective expulsions: Removed weaker students rather than helping them improve, leaving those more likely to enter the Inner Court and inflate her class’s advancement rate 19 25.
- Compulsory aggression: Treated willingness to fight and “stir up trouble” as evidence of potential, punishing the freshmen because none had fought since registration 20.
- Unquestioning obedience: Claimed authority to expel any student and told dissenters to leave 20.
- Institutional intimidation: Relied on Fan Yu’s influence and the Soul Tool Department’s backing; fear of accusations against the academy discouraged complaints 8 19.
- Punishment presented as care: Reframed the forced running exercise as a health-oriented test when challenged by Chu Ge 21.
The investigation recorded expulsions for the following reasons:
| Student | Recorded Reason |
|---|---|
| Chang Gongwei | Speaking ill of the teacher 25 |
| Jiang Xiaojiang | Spending excessive time eating in the cafeteria and neglecting cultivation 25 |
| Quarter | Disrespecting Soul Tool Department technology 25 |
Appearance
Zhou Yi has an aged, heavily wrinkled face that contrasts with her comparatively youthful, attractive figure. Her expression and gaze give her a fierce, imposing presence 7 20.
- Crane-white hair piled atop her head 20.
- Cold, piercing eyes 20.
- An icy expression during her first confrontation with Chu Ge 7.
Personality
Zhou Yi is proud, authoritarian, and quick to anger. She disparages applicants and students alike, and her reliance on influential connections makes her dismissive even toward Du Weilun, the Martial Soul Department’s director 7 8 20.
She regards punishment as a teacher’s unquestionable right and continues to believe herself justified when confronted. Her confidence falters before Chu Ge’s overwhelming strength, but her pleas and forced approval conceal persistent resentment rather than an acknowledgment of wrongdoing 21 22.
