But Steve did not fight back.
He had not struck back once since this began.
That made Tony feel even worse.
If Steve fought back, he could dismiss him as an enemy.
Now, the man standing before him was simply someone admitting he had done wrong.
"That footage," Tony said. "You knew what was in it all along?"
"I knew what the mission file said. I didn't know about the audio."
"You thought I shouldn't hear it?"
"I thought you should hear it when you were ready."
"And when would that be?"
"I don't know."
"All of you decided you didn't know for me."
Tony turned and punched the metal cabinet beside him.
The cabinet door caved in, and sparks flew from the joints of his armored glove.
Peter took a step forward, then stopped.
Tony's pulse was racing.
But he had not lost control.
Matt raised his head.
"He's not planning to keep going."
"I'm charging for that, too," Yang Ming said.
Tony turned to look at him.
"You're still asking me for money?"
"Your armor wrecked two walls, one hospital bed, and three medicine cabinets."
"Put it on Steve's tab."
"He already owes me."
"Then put it under Fury's name."
"Fury will haul both of you before the Council."
Yang Ming continued bandaging.
Tony removed his faceplate.
"I want to see Bucky."
Steve raised his head.
"I'm going, too."
"Of course you are," Tony said. "You owe me an explanation."
"I'll give you one."
"No. Not an explanation."
Tony looked at the line in the mission record on the screen.
"I want him brought back alive."
Steve did not answer.
Tony continued:
"But if he's still being controlled, or if he hurts anyone of his own free will, I'll kill him."
Steve gripped the edge of his shield.
