Gu Wenze's grip on the steering wheel tightened involuntarily. He broke the dead silence in the car. "We're almost at the hospital. Just hold on a little longer."
Beneath her sleeve, Qiao Hua pressed hard against her wound and swallowed a cry of pain. All she could do was feign numbness and turn to look out the window.
I absolutely cannot let Gu Wenze see through me!
How did that old saying go? You had to fool yourself before you could fool anyone else.
Fortunately, the car finally reached the hospital just before Qiao Hua reached her limit.
In the corridor, a doctor was treating Qiao Hua's wound.
The burning stare behind him sent a chill down the doctor's neck. Bracing himself, he offered reassurance. "Mr. Gu, don't worry. Miss Qiao's cut isn't deep. It should heal in two weeks."
Gu Wenze's expression was dark.
That was only because he had stopped Qiao Hua in time, keeping things from getting worse.
Gu Wenze dared not imagine what would have happened if he hadn't woken up then.
Qiao Hua might already have been dead.
At the thought of Qiao Hua hurting herself in the bathroom earlier, Gu Wenze felt as though invisible hands were squeezing his heart, sending threads of pain through it.
While the doctor treated Qiao Hua's wound, Gu Wenze took his phone to a corner and called the psychologist.
The phone rang several times before the call connected. Clearly awakened from sleep, the psychologist still sounded drowsy. "President Gu?"
Gu Wenze wasted no time and told the psychologist about Qiao Hua hurting herself with a knife.
After listening, the psychologist said, "This indicates that Miss Qiao's condition has worsened."
Gu Wenze's grip on his phone tightened involuntarily.
He hadn't expected Qiao Hua to develop self-harming tendencies so soon.
