Qiao Hua nearly choked. "Who said I was worried? Don't flatter yourself."
Gu Wenze studied her expression, his gaze deep and inscrutable. "If you weren't worried about me, why were you so nervous when you heard I'd had an accident?"
"I was afraid that if you died, I'd be locked up here forever." Qiao Hua snorted. "It had absolutely nothing to do with worrying about you."
A flicker of amusement crossed Gu Wenze's eyes. "Don't worry. I'll stay alive and well. I certainly won't leave you here all alone as a widow."
With her words twisted into something else, Qiao Hua flushed. "Who's afraid of being a widow? I wish you'd hurry up and die so I could inherit your estate."
"If I died, who would take care of you and the baby?"
"Hmph. There are plenty of men out there who would take care of us."
Gu Wenze had clearly thought of a man who displeased him immensely. His gaze darkened, its turbulent undercurrents almost tangible as they enveloped Qiao Hua. "Rest assured, they'll never get that chance."
Perhaps because Gu Wenze looked so weak, Qiao Hua stopped arguing with him. "All right, all right. I'm going to eat breakfast."
"I haven't eaten either," Gu Wenze said stiffly.
Qiao Hua gave him a surprised look. "Doesn't the hospital serve meals?"
"It does," Gu Wenze said without batting an eye. "But I want to eat with you."

Qiao Hua set down her spoon and went into the kitchen, then brought Gu Wenze a bowl of porridge and set it in front of him.
