At those words, Qiao Hua felt the arm around her waist tighten slightly. Gu Wenze's voice was utterly calm and resolute. "Of course."
"What if you fall in love with someone else one day?"
"Impossible," Gu Wenze said without a second thought.
Qiao Hua turned over and looked into Gu Wenze's eyes in the moonlight spilling through the window. "What's so impossible about it?" she scoffed. "Didn't you fall for Jiang Nan before?"
Gu Wenze's expression didn't change. "I was blind."
Qiao Hua smiled sweetly. "Then who knows? You might go blind again."
"Once was enough." Gu Wenze enunciated every word. "There will never be a second time."
Qiao Hua pursed her lips, clearly unconvinced.
Gu Wenze took in her expression and wrapped his arm around her waist, pulling her close. "If I make that mistake again, you can do whatever you want to me."
Qiao Hua raised an eyebrow. "Whatever I want?"
Gu Wenze repeated, "Yes, whatever you want."
"Then you'd better watch yourself. I won't show any mercy." Qiao Hua made a slicing motion toward his crotch, her meaning obvious.
Gu Wenze wasn't annoyed. Instead, a faint smile surfaced in his eyes as he spoke, his breath warm against her. "Qiao Hua, does that mean you've agreed to be with me?"
Qiao Hua looked a little awkward. "That depends on how you behave," she snapped.
An almost imperceptible smile curved Gu Wenze's lips. "Don't worry. I'll be on my best behavior."
Qiao Hua snorted, dismissing his words, and pulled up the covers to sleep. Somehow, the weight on her heart had eased a little.
Gu Wenze gazed at Qiao Hua's back, his eyes as deep and dark as the night.
