Qiao Hua paused slightly as she looked at the hand resting on her arm. "I'm fine. Thank you for helping me just now."
If this man hadn't kindly stepped in, she would never have escaped that blond thug's clutches today.
The man smiled faintly and withdrew his hand. "You're welcome. Anyone would have stepped in if they'd seen that."
Qiao Hua wasn't so sure, but she turned her attention to his condition. "You didn't get hurt, did you?"
He teased, "If you hadn't swung that stick when you did, I might have."
His reminder brought back the image of her knocking the thug flat with a single blow, but she didn't think there was anything wrong with that.
He had wanted to hurt her. Why should she have gone easy on him?
Qiao Hua blinked. "So does that make us even?"
The man froze for a moment, then broke into a hearty smile.
She was far more interesting than he had imagined.
"Are you really all right?" Still smiling, he looked Qiao Hua up and down. "Do you need me to take you to the hospital?"
Qiao Hua replied breezily, "Really, there's no need. I'm fine."
The thug had only made brief contact with her. There was no need to make a fuss.
Seeing that Qiao Hua seemed unharmed, the man didn't insist. Apparently remembering something, he raised an eyebrow. "You looked a little disappointed when you saw me earlier."
Qiao Hua was taken aback. She hadn't expected him to notice. "No, I thought my husband had come," she said awkwardly.
An unreadable emotion flickered in his eyes at the word "husband." "You're married?"
