When Qiao Hua woke up, she was already in the hospital.
She stared at the white ceiling, her mind foggy. Her body felt as if a car had run over it, leaving her utterly drained.
"You're awake?"
Gu Wenze's face suddenly came into view. He looked tense and worried, his eyes bloodshot and ringed with dark circles, as though he hadn't slept properly all day.
Qiao Hua struggled to open her mouth. "Where am I?"
"The hospital." Gu Wenze tucked the blanket around her. "The doctor said you have a lung infection. You'll need plenty of rest for a while."
Suddenly remembering something, Qiao Hua struggled to sit up. "Wait, where's the baby?"
Gu Wenze held her shoulders and gently pressed her back onto the bed. "He's fine. The doctor is examining him."
Only then did Qiao Hua's anxious heart settle.
She sank back onto the bed, exhausted, her whole body limp. "As long as he's all right. As long as he's all right."
Gu Wenze watched her face, a faint smile in his eyes.
His gaze made Qiao Hua uncomfortable. "What are you smiling about?"
Gu Wenze's lips curved. "You're that worried about our son?"
Qiao Hua's gaze flickered. "I carried him for ten months and gave birth to him. Of course I'm worried."
"But you didn't like him before. You even tried to abort him several times." Gu Wenze stared into her eyes. "Yet this time, you were willing to sacrifice yourself to save him."
Gu Wenze knew perfectly well that although Qiao Hua had given birth to Gu Jinyang, she had yet to truly accept him.
Yet this time, Qiao Hua had risked her life to protect Gu Jinyang.
The doctor had said that if he had arrived any later, Qiao Hua wouldn't have survived.
