Qiao Hua's heart jolted, and she abruptly opened her eyes to look at Gu Wenze.
Gu Wenze was looking at her too, his gaze unfathomable. "But I can't just let you off that easily."
Before Qiao Hua could work out what he meant, she saw Gu Wenze take out his phone and make a call.
Within half an hour, his assistant arrived and took a black object out of a bag.
An uneasy premonition crept over Qiao Hua. "What is that?"
Gu Wenze enunciated each word. "Electronic Shackles."
Qiao Hua's heart sank.
She had heard of these things before. Supposedly, they were used specifically for criminal suspects.
Sure enough, Gu Wenze said, "This ankle monitor will set off an alarm if you go beyond a preset area. If you take even one step outside the house, I'll be notified."
Qiao Hua swallowed. "Can I choose not to wear it?"
Gu Wenze's face remained expressionless. "Yes."
Qiao Hua's heart leaped with joy, only for Gu Wenze to add, "Then forget about leaving this room."
Qiao Hua silently gave him the middle finger in her mind.
Seeing that Gu Wenze wasn't joking, Qiao Hua gritted her teeth and relented. "Fine. I'll wear it."
It was better than being locked up here for the rest of her life.
As the Electronic Shackles were fastened around her ankle, Qiao Hua felt uncomfortable, as though she really were some criminal suspect, and couldn't help shifting her foot.
Gu Wenze's threat rang in her ears. "Qiao Hua, don't even think about destroying it. Otherwise, I'll lock you in the basement, and you'll never set foot outside again."
Qiao Hua shuddered at the thought.
After speaking, Gu Wenze turned to the nanny and motioned for her to unlock Qiao Hua's chains.
