Background / History
Jun Yuyuan is identified as the crown prince of the Qin Ye Kingdom. Northern Li’s palace servants call him a prince of a fallen kingdom and treat him as an unprotected prisoner, despite his royal title. He retains attendants who address him respectfully and defend his dignity 17 18 19.
His vulnerable position forces him to exercise restraint. He stops Ling Feng from attacking the eunuchs who insult him, and later warns Jin Yun that killing Ye Tangtang would bring Ye Yubei’s investigation down on them. His larger plan remains undisclosed; an attendant also reports a delivered letter and raises the question of whether the Eastern Lin ruler will agree to his request 18 19 35.
His mother died when he was young, and his father did not love him. After suffering within Qin Ye’s palace, he was appointed crown prince and sent to Northern Li as a hostage. He subsequently hears that Qin Ye has appointed another crown prince, making him regard his own title as hollow and suspect that his father does not expect him to return alive 118.
His neglect in Northern Li extends to his food. He receives greens, tofu, millet soup, plain buns, and pickles because better meals never reach him, leaving him to eat the same fare as servants. Tangtang replaces this with an elaborate meal and promises to share her food with him, although he rejects the implication that he needs charity 105 106.
Foretold Future
- Conquest of Northern Li: Tangtang and her system identify Jun as the future conqueror who will overthrow Northern Li, with Ye Linmo serving as one of his great generals 9.
- Unification: Tangtang predicts that he will sweep through six kingdoms; the system later describes his ultimate achievement as unifying the Seven Kingdoms and becoming an unparalleled emperor 19 41.
- Revenge: Tangtang believes he will subject those who abused him to exceptionally cruel executions 19.
- Political advantage: Tangtang attributes the ease of his future victory over Northern Li’s army partly to Grand Secretary Lu’s betrayal and support for the Prince of Yan 47.
- Changing the predicted outcome: The system encourages Tangtang to win Jun over as a means of preventing war and the deaths of people she knows 64.
These are predictions from the story Tangtang knows, rather than a record of conquests already completed at the time they are discussed. Later events diverge from that expected future: Jun becomes an expansionist emperor and is credited with uniting six kingdoms, but Northern Li remains a separate kingdom that he orders his ministers to support militarily 144 148.
Conflict Between Revenge and Attachment
Jun explicitly reminds himself that Tangtang is his enemy’s daughter and renews his determination to destroy Northern Li, even after enjoying her company and considering inviting her to his birthday 68.
His attachment gradually changes his conduct toward her homeland. While helping distribute relief food, he recognizes that he is improving Ye Yubei’s reputation despite being an enemy prince, yet finds himself unable to refuse Tangtang. He later anticipates political turmoil and thinks that he would once have aggravated it, but refrains because he does not want to frighten her 126 136.
During Prince Yue’s rebellion, he remains in the endangered palace to protect Tangtang instead of leaving to pursue his own ambitions. His attendants are baffled by this choice, while Ye Yubei increasingly recognizes that his devotion is personal 139 140.
Return to Qin Ye and Rise to Power
After the rebellion, Jun’s father summons him home. He leaves Northern Li a few days later, aware that dangerous struggles await him and determined to survive because he wants to see Tangtang again. Before departing, he asks her not to choose another consort and promises to return to become hers 143.
During their three-year separation, he sends Tangtang numerous letters. By the time he returns for her fifteenth birthday and coming-of-age ceremony, he has become Qin Ye’s emperor and brought surrounding cities and kingdoms under his rule. Shen Qingqing fears that his ambition may eventually threaten Northern Li, but Tangtang says he promised never to attack her homeland 144.
He presents his marriage proposal as an alliance that will join Qin Ye and Northern Li in lasting harmony. Although Ye Yubei initially refuses, Tangtang accepts Jun’s private proposal and Shen Qingqing agrees to support their marriage. Jun states that he has put Qin Ye in order and removed obstacles so Tangtang can live freely there 145.
Married Life and Later Reign
With Shen Qingqing’s help, the wedding is arranged for six months later. During the intervening period, Jun repeatedly visits Northern Li’s palace, sometimes disguised as a guard and sometimes using state affairs as an excuse to see Tangtang. Palace servants become accustomed to treating him as her future consort 146.
Later, Tangtang is his empress, and they have two sons, Little Yuanxiao and Little Tangyuan. After seven years on the throne, Jun is credited with expanding his territory, defeating powerful enemies, and uniting six kingdoms. Despite ministerial dissatisfaction, Tangtang remains the only woman in his harem 148.
When northwestern forces threaten Northern Li, he orders reinforcements despite objections from his ministers, stating that he does not want the kingdom harmed 148.
He eventually prepares his successor intensively so that he can settle court affairs and fulfill his repeated promise to travel with Tangtang. He discusses visiting Yunnan, while Tangtang later asks to go to Hangzhou as they travel together 150.
Appearance
- Face and bearing: Handsome, with cool, austere features and a noble bearing; his first appearance gives a sickly impression 5 16.
- Eyes: Dark and piercing, with an expression that can remain composed even while his gaze turns cold 18 30.
- Build: Tall, with a lean waist and long legs. Tangtang reaches only his chest when they pose together 26 28 41.
- Hands: Long, slender fingers and well-defined knuckles, which Tangtang particularly admires 17.
- Clothing: Frequently wears black robes 30 41.
- Reputation: Palace maids admire his looks; one considers him the palace’s most handsome man after Ye Yubei, although he has not yet fully grown into his appearance 37 41.
- Facial details: Has unusually pale skin, a finely sculpted straight nose, and peach-pink lips. Tangtang also notices his long, thick lashes and sharply defined profile 75 95.
- Physique: His strength and muscular build become apparent when he restrains Tangtang to treat her burn and when she tends his arm wound 75 103.
- Bearing as emperor: Returns after three years taller and more handsome, with an imposing, fierce presence and cold, abyss-like eyes. His expression softens when he sees Tangtang 144.
- Imperial attire: Later wears black robes embroidered with golden dragons; his posture and movements remain upright, graceful, and controlled 148.
Personality
Jun is proud, guarded, and difficult to provoke openly. When eunuchs demean him, he maintains a still expression rather than reacting impulsively. His restraint is strategic rather than harmlessness: he kills two eunuchs during a nighttime encounter and responds icily when a subordinate jeopardizes his plans 18 19 26 35.
Tangtang repeatedly disrupts that composure. Her thoughts amuse him, but he is irritated to discover that she approaches him for system points rather than affection. He recognizes her greed and evasions without fully understanding the strange rewards she discusses 6 14 17 30.
His growing attention to her contrasts with his dismissive language. He slows down when she cannot keep up, protects her from a freezing nighttime bath, and spends nearly two hours studying their joint portrait. When Ling Feng suggests that they look like a couple, Jun denies it, becomes embarrassed, and attempts to read a book upside down 27 28 36 41 42.
His jealousy becomes increasingly visible. He crushes or cracks porcelain cups when Tangtang admires Xie Jingqian, questions her interest in Lu Wuyou, and resents attention she gives even to Jin Yun or a small child. He nevertheless continues to deny or disguise his feelings 59 84 85 106 109 129.
He is capable of playful manipulation. After being wounded protecting Tangtang, he apparently exaggerates his inability to walk to keep her beside him, later claims that his injured arm prevents him from eating so she will feed him, and takes advantage of another minor injury to collapse into her embrace 94 106 130.
His stern language often conceals genuine care. He personally treats Tangtang’s burned hand, catches her before she hits a wall, warms her cold hands, and patiently teaches her calligraphy. Ling Feng and Jin Yun find this tenderness extraordinary given his usual aloofness 75 83 105.
His isolation contributes to a vulnerable side. Tangtang’s brothers’ dismissal of him as unworthy makes him feel like an outsider, while their closeness prompts envy rooted in his own unhappy childhood. During the palace crisis, he voices a cynical belief that people abandon one another in danger and asks whether Tangtang would leave him too 69 118 136.
As emperor, he retains a formidable public reputation for coldness and violent unpredictability, but behaves affectionately and mischievously with his family. He openly prioritizes Tangtang, competes with their sons for her company, and attempts to gain entry to her barricaded bedroom by promising Little Tangyuan candy—a trick that backfires when the boy refuses to wait until the next day 148.
Abilities & Skills
Hearing Ye Tangtang’s Thoughts
Jun can hear Tangtang’s inner monologue while she remains unaware of his access to it 6 14 40.
- Detects the difference between her polite words and her actual motives 17 19.
- Learns that she expects him to return to the palace as a conqueror, prompting him to investigate her secrets 14.
- Recognizes that her requests for physical contact are intended to earn points 17 30.
- Understands her photographic pricing as an attempt to extract money rather than a genuine difficulty caused by his good looks 40.
- Does not initially understand her references to systems, points, lottery draws, or unfamiliar foods 6 17.
- Overhears her repeated speculation that he is impotent, which angers him; these claims are Tangtang’s mistaken assumptions, not a confirmed condition 41 68 95 136 148.
- Hears her worries about political marriage and becomes concerned about the danger she might face in a foreign palace 68.
- Sees through her flattery and staged distress when she seeks a future favor, but agrees anyway 104.
Tangtang briefly wonders whether he can hear her thoughts, but does not establish that he can in the documented encounter 68.
Swordsmanship
Jun demonstrates lethal sword skills when Tangtang witnesses him killing two eunuchs 26.
- Detects her presence and brings his sword to her neck before she can escape 26.
- Lowers the weapon after recognizing her and ultimately allows her to leave 26 27.
- Dispatches seven or eight assassins within moments while holding Tangtang, then pursues attackers attempting to flee 90.
- Fights off giant wolves while shielding Tangtang, continuing despite a wound to his left arm 94.
- Battles coordinated assassins during the carriage ambush, cutting down multiple attackers while safeguarding Tangtang 130.
Lightness Skill
Jun possesses a lightness skill that allows him to move away rapidly 45.

- Carries Tangtang into the air to escape after her explosive damages Phoenix Hall 54.
- Crosses thickets while carrying her after the wolf attack 94.
- Leaps into trees and moves over treetops to reach Tangtang before an archer can hit her during the carriage ambush 130.

- Repeatedly carries Tangtang through difficult mountain terrain, including while injured 91 94 96.
- His martial prowess is described as far exceeding Ling Feng’s and Jin Yun’s, making his injuries while protecting Tangtang particularly surprising to his attendants 97.
Marksmanship
Jun rapidly understands Tangtang’s unfamiliar handgun by comparing its aiming principle to archery. After a brief explanation of aiming and firing, he kills Prince Yue with a shot to the forehead 141.
He subsequently intervenes before Ye Linci can execute Lu Qin, piercing the prince’s wrist and causing him to drop his sword 142.
Calligraphy and Painting
- Calligraphy: His writing is described as grand and majestic. He agrees to teach Tangtang, corrects her brush grip, and guides her hand through individual characters 84 85 104 105.
- Painting: Repeatedly draws Tangtang’s smiling face. Ling Feng discovers one of the discarded portraits, while Jun privately becomes frustrated that he keeps drawing her whenever he picks up a brush 82.
- Instruction: Patiently encourages Tangtang despite her poor handwriting and resistance to practice. He later personally oversees his heir’s demanding education 105 150.
Political Judgment and Command
Jun weighs immediate retaliation against the danger it could pose to his broader plans 19 35.
- Prevents Ling Feng from attacking palace servants on Northern Li’s territory 19.
- Stops Jin Yun from killing Tangtang because her death could expose him to Ye Yubei 35.
- Sends someone to inform Ye Yubei when Tangtang is being mistreated, bringing the emperor to intervene 50.
- Explains that Prince Yue’s relief efforts are earning public support and allowing his reputation to eclipse that of the absent emperor 129.
- Anticipates imminent unrest involving the Lu family and the prince supporting Consort Shu 136.
- Becomes Qin Ye’s sovereign and conducts successful expansionist wars 144 148.
- Overrides ministerial objections to order military aid for Northern Li 148.
- Prepares his successor to manage the throne so he can leave court life and travel with Tangtang 150.
Wilderness Survival and Caregiving
Jun shelters Tangtang in caves during their mountain ordeal, covers her with his outer robes, gathers wild fruit, and roasts it over a fire. He assesses the snow and slippery terrain and warns that reaching the palace will take at least three days 91 95 96.
He can also apply ointment to injuries, personally treating Tangtang’s burned hand rather than leaving the task entirely to his attendants 75.
Power Progression
No named cultivation ranks or numerical martial-power levels are established for Jun. His documented progression concerns demonstrated skills, political authority, and military achievements rather than the system’s relationship measurements 26 41 144 148.

Before departing, he specifically asks her not to take Xie as another consort 59 109 111 113 136 143.

- Tangtang’s brothers — Several disapprove of her closeness to an enemy hostage prince. Ye Linze’s attempt to block Jun ends when Jun confronts him, but the brothers’ comments reinforce Jun’s sense of exclusion. Connection to Tangtang’s System
Physical contact with Jun earns Tangtang rewards; the system also tracks her progress toward winning him over. These measurements concern their relationship, not Jun’s martial strength 16 19 27.
| Measurement | Chapter | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| 0.1% affinity | 19 | The system states that its mission requires reaching 100%. |
| 1% conquest progress | 27 | Tangtang’s embrace earns her 1,000 points. |
| 1.1% previous progress | 41 | Mentioned retrospectively as the reading before the latest increase. |
| 1.2% conquest progress | 41 | Recorded after the joint-portrait encounter. |
- A qualifying hand touch can award 500 points 16 30 44.
- The system requires a handhold lasting more than three seconds; Jun’s early withdrawal prevents a reward 19.
- Jun touching Tangtang’s cheek does not qualify: she must initiate the rewarded contact 16.
- Tangtang receives 500 points after touching his hand while asleep, although she initially mistakes the encounter for a dream 35.
- A birthday hug awards 1,000 points, regardless of how long she maintains the embrace 75.
- Spending time with him allows her to accumulate 30,000 points over several days before the siege’s decisive stage. She spends these on draws that yield mystery boxes, one containing the handgun he subsequently uses 140 141.
- The system presents winning Jun over as a way to prevent the predicted war and executions, but no later numerical conquest-progress reading is supplied in the provided events 64 144 148.
Transformation of His Narrative Role
Jun begins as the feared future destroyer of Tangtang’s homeland. Her efforts to preserve her comfortable life lead her to approach him for rewards and political security, while his access to her thoughts lets him recognize those motives 9 17 19 41.
Repeated companionship turns that relationship into mutual protection. He saves her from assassins and remains beside her during Northern Li’s rebellion; she defends him before her father, treats his injuries, and eventually chooses him as her sole prospective consort 94 97 130 139 144.
His eventual marriage and military support for Northern Li distinguish the altered storyline from the original future Tangtang fears. He still becomes a powerful conquering ruler, but his relationship with her redirects his conduct toward her family and kingdom 144 145 148.
