Her little brows furrowed, and she pointed a fingertip imbued with spiritual power at one of the ghosts. "You, come here! You tell us!"
Forced to drift slowly forward, Saiban saw Xia Wanwan's round head floating alone in midair and nearly had his soul scattered in fright.
"Little thing, could you stay away from me first? You're nothing but a head! You're scaring this ghost to death."
Xia Wanwan huffed twice and walked back to the emperor's side, deeply displeased.
Fortunately, the emperor was sitting in a chair. The sight of so many ghosts had made his legs go weak, but he still maintained his imperial dignity.
"You must answer my questions truthfully!"
Saiban said, "I cannot lie. If answering truthfully will let me reincarnate smoothly, I'm willing to tell you everything!"
Eunuch Yu had someone prepare a case ledger, ready to record the answers.
The emperor asked, "Who are you? How long have you been doing this business? Whose orders do you follow?"
Saiban gazed up at the sky with hollow eyes.
"I am Saiban. I was forty when I died. I handled this business from the beginning, over twenty years ago. I used to follow Xie X's orders, and now I follow Xie XX's orders."
"Xie what?" The emperor had not heard clearly.
"Xie X, Xie XX."
Saiban could not get those two names out, as though some sort of restriction had been placed on him.
Still, it was not difficult to guess that he meant the Xie family.
"Wanwan, he can't say the names. What should I do?" The emperor lowered his head to ask the little black bundle playing with his shoelaces.
The little black bundle looked up blankly, blinking her big eyes. "S-silly Uncle, can't you... ask around it?"
