In all fairness, these "dishes" tasted quite good-if one could overlook where they came from.
Watching his companions eat, Wante could not help rambling on. "These are all things the mushroom people have tasted and collected over generations, but I have no idea why these mushrooms can reproduce them perfectly."
His companions: "..."
They were not particularly interested in learning where the food came from. This world was strange enough as it was. Tracing certain things back to their origins might reveal something they could not stomach.
Fortunately, after his companions glared furiously at him for a while, Wante, in his little mushroom-man form, finally caught on. He gave an awkward smile. "I meant that this special feast mycelium could be used in all sorts of places."
That finally proved somewhat useful. Gnawing on a fungus almost indistinguishable from a chicken drumstick, Lina asked thoughtfully, "Can it provide enough nutrition? What conditions does this mycelium need to grow?"
If it really could grow an entire feast on the spot, it would be useful whether sold as a specialty product or used to supply an army. Besides, its research value was extremely high.
If they could mass-produce it in the real world, the students at Earth Academy would probably go wild trying to join the project-they were already researching artificial insemination in breeding pigs.
Wante answered, "Fungi are very nutritious. I can see plenty of fiber in these, so they should be quite filling... As for growing conditions, it seems they only need a simple fungal nutrient solution."
As he spoke, he waved his hand. A huge mushroom immediately grew into a cup filled to the brim with a pale white liquid that seemed to be writhing constantly.
Honestly, it looked rather bizarre. Fungi... sometimes they could be truly strange. They
