The Giant Spider moved its eight long legs at an unhurried pace. Hu Xiaotian felt the silk around him begin to tremble incessantly. He looked to either side and saw the strands below suddenly turn black, the darkness spreading rapidly. On closer inspection, it was not the silk changing color, but thousands upon thousands of little spiders climbing up along it.
Hu Xiaotian's hair stood on end. Seeing so many spiders closing in at once was even more terrifying than facing the giant one. His body suddenly spun counterclockwise. After two revolutions, he reversed direction, spinning clockwise several times faster. Wind-Slayer traced a circle beneath him, its blade energy cutting a great hole through the crisscrossing web below. The little spiders fell with the severed web. Hu Xiaotian swung backward, his back striking the wall of the pit, then used the impact to rebound toward the opposite side. Halfway across, he bent sharply upward again and slashed at the Giant Spider. He was still about thirty feet away, far beyond the reach of Wind-Slayer's edge, but a fierce, invisible wave of blade energy had already left the weapon and swept toward it.
The spider seemed to sense the danger and hastily leaped up, trying to seize a strand of silk on its right. Unfortunately, it was just a little too slow. Hu Xiaotian's slash struck its legs, and three of them snapped in half as the blade energy passed. Blue blood flowed from the severed limbs.
Delighted that his strike had landed, Hu Xiaotian immediately swung again, severing the silk binding his feet with blade energy. Using the momentum of his swinging body, he drove his fingers deep into the wall.
