Hu Xiaotian said, "I do know a little about your background, Mr. Hong."
Hong Beimo stared into his eyes. "Did you come here tonight just to tell me that, Your Highness?"
Hu Xiaotian said, "I simply find it strange that someone as capable as you could spend decades working on something without succeeding."
A faint smile tugged at Hong Beimo's lips. "Timing and fate!"
Hu Xiaotian shook his head and leaned toward him. "That's because you've always chosen the wrong partners." He picked up the wine pot and filled both cups on the table.
Hong Beimo glanced at the two cups and asked quietly, "What do you want?"
Hu Xiaotian said softly, "Great Kang still needs a man to rule it. With your knowledge of heaven and earth, Mr. Hong, how could you not know what I want?" He advanced with measured care, drawing Hong Beimo into his meticulously laid trap. He wanted Hong Beimo to believe that what truly interested him was Great Kang's throne and dominion.
Hong Beimo tapped a finger lightly against the table, but made no move to take his cup. "Do you know where you are right now? One order from me, and you won't live to see tomorrow's sun."
Hu Xiaotian said, "I don't know what you want, Mr. Hong, nor am I interested. I only know that it certainly isn't Great Kang's throne. On that point, our interests don't conflict." He paused. "If we each get what we want, everyone will be happy."
Hong Beimo's expression regained its earlier calm, his eyes as unfathomable as the sea. "What can you give me?"
Hu Xiaotian said, "I'm the only person in the world who can influence the princess. I can make her keep cooperating with you-or I can throw a wrench in your plans!"
