Long Xiyue let out a wistful sigh. "Even running all over the mountains with you would be better than staying in this place that never sees the light of day."
Hu Xiaotian's heart jolted. He thought Long Xiyue had spotted him, but on second thought, that was impossible. He was clinging like a gecko to the pitch-black wall of the well. However sharp her eyesight might be, she could not have seen him.
Long Xiyue sat down on the rim of the well, picked a chrysanthemum, crushed its petals, and tossed them into the well one by one. Hu Xiaotian gazed up at her silhouette beneath the moon, almost intoxicated by the sight. He never expected a petal to drift down and settle just above his nostril. The tickling was unbearably irritating, and he could not hold it in. "Achoo!" The sneeze was truly earth-shattering. It was nighttime, and the shaft around Hu Xiaotian served as an excellent amplifier.
Long Xiyue had never imagined there was anyone inside the well. Her lovely face blanched with fright, and her delicate body trembled. She tried to turn and flee, but in her panic, her foot slipped, and she fell straight into the opening. Hu Xiaotian reacted instantly, throwing out his right arm to catch her around the waist while thrusting his left hand deep into a crack between the stones. Only by exerting every ounce of strength did he keep them both from plunging to the bottom.
Long Xiyue screamed, but she had barely made a sound when a familiar voice said, "Don't scream. It's me!"
Recognizing Hu Xiaotian's voice, Long Xiyue felt both startled and delighted. Yet she soon came to her senses after that brief flash of joy. Why was he here? Her beautiful eyes gradually adjusted to the darkness,
