The black-clad cavalry finally began to move. The rider in the center took the lead, and the four square formations shifted into an arrowhead as they galloped forward. At a command, every rider bent his bow and nocked a flaming arrow on horseback. More than a hundred flaming arrows shot into the night sky at a forty-five-degree angle. Upon reaching the ends of their arcs, they changed direction and slanted down toward Hexagon City.
Hu Xiaotian and Xiong Tianba raised the shields they had prepared. Besides his shield, Xiong Tianba had already donned the Seven-Layer Phosphor Armor, though it was missing one plate. Even when flaming arrows struck it, they could not penetrate the tough armor in the slightest. Seeing how miraculous it was, he split his great mouth in a delighted grin. He had been born for battle; the more dangerous the situation, the more excited he became. Liang Yinghao, meanwhile, burrowed into the hole dug beforehand to escape the arrows falling like meteors.
After two volleys, the cavalry had advanced to within thirty zhang of them. Hu Xiaotian looked due north and saw no reinforcements approaching. He felt a little reassured. Apparently, the enemy did not have many reinforcements.
"They're here!" Xiong Tianba said.
Hu Xiaotian nodded. With his approval, Xiong Tianba picked up a foundation stone the size of a millstone, raised it overhead, and hurled it into the enemy ranks with all his strength. Born with prodigious power, he sent the stone howling through the air as though launched by a catapult. It landed among the enemy and struck a black-clad rider square in the chest, smashing both man and horse to the ground. The man never had a chance to make a sound, but his horse gave a mournful cry before dying on the spot
