The door slammed shut. Jiang Nian was just about to strike whoever was holding her from behind when a familiar voice sounded beside her ear:
"It's me."
The hand over her mouth slowly withdrew, and Jiang Nian turned around in surprise.
"Wen Jincheng?"
Wen Jincheng himself nodded. "It's me."
Jiang Nian instantly relaxed and patted her chest. "You scared me. I thought you were a ghost."
Wen Jincheng lowered his eyes and said softly, "Sorry."
"I just lured a ghost into the stairwell. You might get caught if you went over there now, so I had to pull you in quickly."
Hearing his explanation, Jiang Nian thought back to the two ghosts she had just encountered.
"What weapon did the ghost you lured away have? I ran into two just now, too. One had a baseball bat, and the other had a chainsaw."
Wen Jincheng seemed to fall silent for a moment. "He had... a bucket."
Jiang Nian thought she had misheard him and asked in disbelief, "A... bucket?"
Was this ghost using a bucket as a weapon? Was he cosplaying an Iron Bucket Zombie?
Wen Jincheng was just as speechless. God knew how bewildered he had been when he saw a ghost charging after him with a bucket.
Jiang Nian was curious. "Then how did you lure him away?"
This room was only a short distance from the stairwell. Surely he hadn't just kicked the ghost downstairs?
Wen Jincheng slowly explained how he had lured the ghost downstairs. "I ran into him in a laboratory just now. After finding a way to trap him, I ran over here."
"I figured he could probably hear me running this way, so I dropped one of my hair clips at the stairs to lure him down."
As he spoke, he removed the
