The meatball he spat out hit Ji Ting's chest and bounced off.
Ji Ting forgot everything else, turned, and grabbed a bottle of mineral water from the fridge. "Drink this."
Grimacing, Ji Yanzhi took the bottle and walked to the sink. He held the cold water in his mouth for a while before spitting it out.
Half a bottle later, Ji Ting leaned closer. "Any better?"
Ji Yanzhi pressed the tip of his tongue against the roof of his mouth. It didn't hurt that much, but it felt numb and prickly.
He frowned at Ji Ting. "Why was the meatball so hot?"
"Of course it was hot. It had just come out of the oil. I was about to tell you to blow on it, but you'd already put it in your mouth."
