"Because people are always especially forgiving toward those they don't care about."
Ji Ting answered instinctively, but the moment the words left his mouth, both of them froze.
Ji Ting's lips parted slightly, confusion and surprise flickering in his eyes, as though he was struggling to process what he had just blurted out.
I'm harsh in my judgment of Ji Yanzhi because...
...I care about him?
That reverse deduction made Ji Ting curl his fingers in alarm. He quickly searched his mind for evidence to support the theory, but the harder he tried to think, the more his thoughts slipped through his fingers like sand, impossible to grasp.
His brows slowly drew together. Could my cognitive impairment be acting up again...
Out of nowhere, Ji Ting heard a soft laugh. He snapped out of his thoughts and looked over, only to see Ji Yanzhi turn his face aside and cough.
Ji Ting leaned toward him questioningly. "Ji Yanzhi, did you just laugh?"
"Who said I laughed?" Ji Yanzhi turned back, his face as stern as a stone monument. "Which ear heard me laugh?"
Ji Ting blinked. "I think both of them did."
"You said you think so. You're not even sure yourself, and you're asking me?" Ji Yanzhi was shamelessly confident.
Ji Ting looked at him in confusion, but Ji Yanzhi picked up a prawn cracker and fed it into his mouth. "Your ears aren't working properly. Have a prawn cracker for some calcium."
Ji Ting ate it in a daze, never noticing the smile Ji Yanzhi couldn't hide in his eyes.
So what if Ji Ear called him a Tasmanian Devil a few times? So what if he said he was hard to keep? Let him say it. Who could blame him for caring so much about Ji Yanzhi?
