When Ji Yanzhi arrived, he knew Ji Ting was still in the laboratory. He had planned to wait in the dormitory, but after running into something so upsetting the moment he got there, he simply dropped off his luggage and went to find him.
Once through the main entrance of the base's central building, however, Ji Yanzhi stopped in the corridor.

He wanted to call and ask, but his phone had been confiscated too. Personal communications devices were prohibited on the base to prevent leaks, and he had yet to collect an authorized one.
Anyone else would have had to turn back, but Ji Yanzhi decided to wait for his quarry to come to him.
Sure enough, before long, he heard Ji Ting's thoughts.
It's consistently ahead by Mach 0.3. This data is relatively stable for now.
Ji Yanzhi's lips curved. Following the voice to its source, he stopped outside the third laboratory.
Once his identity was verified, the door slid silently to the right, then closed again a moment later.
Ji Ting's gaze was fixed on the virtual image before him. In the holographic projection, an annular detonation wave kept leaping like blue lightning.
A moment later, the detonation wave turned into crimson flames, twisting into irregular jagged shapes inside the combustion chamber.
Ji Yanzhi did not understand what was on the screen. From the moment he entered, his eyes had remained on Ji Ting's profile.
Not bad. He hasn't lost weight, so he must have been eating properly. His hair's grown out, though. It's almost covering his eyes. We'll get it cut when we're back.
*Master Ji looks so solemn when he's thinking about an experiment. There's even something almost sacred about him. Now I finally understand why
