Ji Ting froze. Once he came back to his senses, he hung up the phone first, then looked at Ji Yanzhi. "Were you just... saying the opposite of what you meant?"
"No." Ji Yanzhi sounded unusually certain, his calm almost deliberately maintained. "And don't worry. I won't get angry."
Ji Yanzhi had made his position clear, yet Ji Ting only grew more confused: Ji Yanzhi hates it when I interact with Lu Yanchu. Why is he encouraging me to go this time? This doesn't fit his personality...
As though afraid he might change his mind the next second, Ji Yanzhi gave Ji Ting no more time to think. He took his hand. "Come on. Let's get your coat first."
"Wait."
Ji Yanzhi looked back at him. Ji Ting's brows were slightly furrowed, his gaze candid and puzzled. "I don't want to see Lu Yanchu. At present, there's no reason for us to meet privately."
His logic had always been clear and direct-the transaction was over, and so was the relationship.
"Aren't you even a little curious about what he wants?" Ji Yanzhi tried to steer him.
"No. If it were important, Lu Yanchu would have explained over the phone, or at least given me some context."
That distinctly Ji Ting-style rational answer left Ji Yanzhi speechless, not knowing whether to laugh or cry. He had never imagined that one day he would be patiently coaxing Ji Ear into meeting that flashy magpie.
He took a deep breath and tried a more logical angle. "Lu Yanchu never comes calling without a reason. He's specifically asked you to meet him this time. What if it's something important?"
Ji Ting fell silent. Ji Yanzhi had indeed touched on a fact: every time Lu Yanchu sought him out, it had been for serious business.
