Konoha knew Cangyue had joined the Akatsuki.

Neither side exposed him. They had even both granted him official status.

Pain remained expressionless.
When Cangyue joined, he had openly declared that he was a Konoha spy and demanded to retain his Konoha affiliation.
If Pain refused, Cangyue would simply turn around and leave.

Cangyue gave Jiraiya a helpless look.

Jiraiya pulled himself out of the wall, brushed the brick dust off his clothes, and gave a bitter chuckle.
"I've been traveling all this time. I haven't been back to Konoha lately."
"If I'd known about your status, I wouldn't have risked sneaking into Amegakure."
This really had been one colossal misunderstanding.
The intelligence he had received outside the village only stated that Konoha Genin Kambara Sogetsu had joined the Akatsuki and become a full member.
No matter how he looked at it, that sounded like defection.
Who could have imagined that this missing-nin was also an S-rank undercover agent secretly registered with Konoha?
Still, judging by the power Cangyue had just displayed, did he really need to work undercover?
With that strength, wiping out the Akatsuki outright hardly seemed impossible.
