Cangyue guided Naruto through improving his chakra control and prepared him for Mizuki’s attempt to steal the Scroll of Seals. Naruto mastered Shadow Clone and began learning the Flying Thunder God Technique, while Mizuki moved to confront him.

• Cangyue trained Naruto in the sealing space, where Naruto befriended Kurama and improved his chakra control enough to master Tree Climbing.
• Hiruzen Sarutobi monitored Naruto’s progress as Cangyue gained the Eternal Dream ability and began training Sasuke to sense attacks without relying on his Sharingan.
• Mizuki deceived Naruto into taking the Scroll of Seals, but Cangyue advised him to leave evidence of Mizuki’s involvement and use Shadow Clones to study the scroll.
• Naruto used dozens of Shadow Clones to study the scroll and discovered the Flying Thunder God Technique, while Hiruzen Sarutobi suspected Cangyue had planned the theft.
• With Kurama’s guidance, Naruto learned to sense the technique’s marks and successfully teleported a leaf and himself, though he landed headfirst.
• Cangyue stopped Naruto’s practice for the night, while Mizuki watched him teleport and took out a Fūma Shuriken as Iruka called for Naruto.

Cangyue joined the Akatsuki as a Konoha spy, tested his growing swordsmanship and shared his dream-training ability with its members. While Team 7 began its Land of Waves mission, Cangyue stayed with Orochimaru to test dream manipulation, and White Mask intervened in Sasuke’s fight with Zabuza.

• Naruto exposed Mizuki’s scheme, defeated him with shadow clones and Flying Thunder God, and vowed to pass the graduation exam.
• Cangyue upgraded his swordsmanship, completed a mission in the Land of Flowers, and accepted Pain’s invitation to meet the Akatsuki.
• Cangyue fought Pain, joined the Akatsuki as an auxiliary member, and arranged to send nonessential intelligence to Konoha.
• Cangyue awakened his Sword Intent Domain, sensed Obito hiding through Kamui, and made the masked man reassess him as a threat.
• Cangyue shared Eternal Dream with Akatsuki members, causing most of them to fall asleep during a meeting, then received a trial mission to obtain ten million ryo.
• Naruto, Sasuke, Sakura, and Kakashi escorted Tazuna to the Land of Waves, where Naruto and Sasuke defeated the Demon Brothers and learned Gato had arranged the attack.
• Cangyue met Orochimaru, gave him Blue Eternal Dream, and accepted the Kusanagi Sword for Sasuke before deciding to test his dream manipulation on Orochimaru.
• Team 7 fought Zabuza, with Naruto using Flying Thunder God and Sasuke facing him alone until White Mask arrived and declared the fight over.

Cangyue made Akatsuki famous by defeating Sunagakure, then worked with Orochimaru to create a powerful second body and strengthen his swordsmanship. After returning to Akatsuki, he asked to go to Konoha for the Chunin exams.

• Cangyue and Tobi attacked Sunagakure, where Cangyue defeated Rasa and disabled hundreds of Sand ninja without killing them.
• Pain promoted Cangyue to Special Member and designated him as the next Akatsuki leader, while Cangyue agreed in exchange for monthly salary payments.
• Cangyue met Black Zetsu, learned he wanted Kaguya freed, and agreed to help later in return for Black Zetsu’s service.
• Orochimaru showed Cangyue his cloned Sharingan and Rinnegan, then helped him create the Myriad-Eyed Dao Body with multiple ocular abilities.
• The Myriad-Eyed Dao Body defeated Darui’s attacks but spared him, earning Cangyue Valor Points while Darui continued toward Akatsuki territory.
• Cangyue persuaded Orochimaru to revive the Konoha Crush Plan and trained until his swordsmanship formed a complete Sword Intent Domain.
• After ten days of practice, Cangyue returned to Akatsuki, demonstrated his increased power, and asked Pain for leave to attend Konoha’s Chunin exams.
