At He Yanbing's question, Ji Zhixing held his phone, the corners of his mouth lifting unconsciously into a smile. "My gene has already evolved. It finished evolving just before you called."
The other end of the line fell noticeably silent for a moment, as though even her breathing had stopped.
"Really?"
Then He Yanbing's voice rang out, brimming with excitement she could barely contain. "Wonderful! Now you can enroll at Rain City University this year!"
"I owe you a lot for your support, Teacher," Ji Zhixing said sincerely. Warmth welled up inside him, along with the feeling that he had not let He Yanbing down.
"None of that! You earned this yourself!" He Yanbing scolded him with a laugh.
They talked for another ten-odd minutes before He Yanbing finally hung up.
She was genuinely delighted that Ji Zhixing's gene had evolved.
After the call ended, Ji Zhixing held his phone and stared at He Yanbing's name on the screen for a while.
