"What the hell is this God of Disaster?"
"It was an evil god worshipped a long time ago."
Elizabeth explained it to Li Wei.
"They believed disasters were part of the progress of human civilization, whetstones that tempered it through hardship. Disasters themselves were trials the Holy Lord set for humanity, and only by overcoming those trials could humanity develop further."
"That doesn't sound all that strange?"
After listening, Li Wei felt there was nothing particularly strange about that belief. It even sounded rather positive.
As the faith claimed, humanity could only have a future if it survived those disasters. If it failed, it would simply die.
That was just a fact.
"It wasn't merely a belief."
"What else could it be? Don't tell me they could actually create disasters?"
Li Wei made a joke, but Elizabeth did not laugh.
"...You're not serious, are you?"
"According to Church records, there is no evidence proving that the God of Disaster's followers actually had the ability to create disasters."
"That's what I thought."
If they could manufacture earthquakes, tsunamis, volcanic eruptions, and the like, those people would have been far too powerful.
"But whenever a disaster struck the continent, those followers of the God of Disaster would come forward and claim responsibility. They called it the Holy Lord's trial for humanity, a hardship humanity was destined to endure."
Wasn't that just asking for a punch in the mouth?
A disaster was still a disaster at the end of the day. Countless people died or were injured. No matter how they spun it, it wasn't a good thing.
"Not only that, they did deliberately create disasters."
"How?"
"According to Church records, they were involved in several historical outbreaks of plague. Some even infected themselves deliberately, then went to other cities to spread it.
