"So you're saying an old man turned into a monster and tried to grab you?"
Li Wei looked at Katie, who nodded vigorously.
"That's right. Then I hurried out and shouted for help, but when I came back, the old man was gone..."
Li Wei had long since told everyone around him that the first thing to do when trouble struck was call for backup, not charge in and get themselves killed.
After all, if you called for backup and nobody came, that was their problem. If you didn't call, that was yours.
So Katie had kept his advice firmly in mind. After crashing through the wall, she had shouted for Li Wei to come, then returned to the room, only to discover to her surprise that the old man who had been blocking the door had vanished.
"Should I have knocked him down before calling you?"
"No, you did exactly the right thing."
Li Wei shook his head.
"We didn't know what we were dealing with. If you'd rushed in and gotten subdued, we'd have had a real problem. At least now we know these bastards couldn't resist showing their true colors..."
As he spoke, Li Wei turned to the members of C Team who had arrived behind him.
"Evacuate the entire nursing home. Tell them we found a wanted criminal and are pursuing him. Get everyone out. And arrest the director. If she resists, shoot to kill!"
"Yes, sir!"
Just as Li Wei had said, calling for backup might let the enemy escape, but they couldn't take their hideout with them, and they couldn't run forever. At least the entire nursing home was now in an uproar, and the greater the commotion, the easier it would be to expose whatever lurked in the shadows.
