The Empire, Fog City Central Station.
As the Empire's transportation hub, it was always bustling, filled with people traveling from every direction. They arrived here and departed from here, the masses streaming in and out like ants, without exception.
That was what Adele thought as she walked out of the railway station.
This was Adele's first time leaving St. France Monastery and traveling so far away. Although she was already eighteen, certainly old enough to earn her own living, finding a suitable job was no easy matter for an eighteen-year-old girl.
Fortunately, Headmistress Helen had approached her and asked whether she would like to become a governess. Adele had hesitated for a while, but Headmistress Helen had assured her that her employer was a noble of high standing and considerable renown. In the end, Adele had agreed to take the job.
After that, she had needed to produce her credentials and a letter of introduction, then pack her luggage. But to Adele, everything had felt like a dream, as though she were floating weightlessly through the air.
Only when she stepped off the train in Fog City and saw the imposing buildings before her did Adele finally feel that she had her feet on solid ground.
Carrying her suitcase, she walked out of the railway station. Not far away, quite a few people stood by the exit, waiting to collect passengers. One of them held a sign bearing her name. Adele looked at it and cautiously approached.
"Hello..."
"Are you Miss Adele Field?"
"Yes."
"Please follow me."
The man holding the sign wore a fine uniform and a hat, looking exactly like someone who worked for high society. He smiled at Adele, reached out to take her luggage, then led her out of the station to a steam car parked
