The road to the Great Salt Lake was rough going.

There was only one reason: there was practically no road.

Indeed, out on the barren plains, they could not even tell whether there was a road, and there were no signs or anything of the sort around them. It gave them the illusion of venturing deep into the wilderness.

Or rather, it was no illusion at all.

Without a compass and map, they would probably have gotten lost long ago.

But their current situation was hardly any different from being lost. As far as they could see, the scenery around them was almost identical wilderness, with nothing to distinguish north, south, east, or west. Li Wei had long since stopped looking outside and begun discussing their next move with Katie instead.

Yet just then, something unexpected happened.

"So, when the time comes, if something goes wrong..."

As Li Wei and Katie were talking, the sunlight outside the windows suddenly vanished, plunging the interior into darkness. At the same time, the emergency brakes engaged, and the Phantom No. 2 rapidly came to a halt.

What was going on?

Li Wei turned toward the window and discovered, to his surprise, that the previously sunny sky was now completely shrouded in night. A silver moon had quietly appeared overhead, illuminating the land before them. At the sight, Li Wei frowned, then walked to the front of the compartment and opened the window leading into the cab.

"What happened?"

"We don't know either, sir."

The two people in the front seats looked just as shaken as they answered Li Wei's question.

"We were just driving along, and suddenly..."

"You mean there was nothing unusual? You didn't see anything?"

"No, sir."

"Then reverse for now. Let's see if we can get out."

"Yes, sir."
