The thing Li Wei hated most was when an investigation turned into a fight.

The pitchfork-wielding fanatic let out an incoherent cry and lunged at Li Wei. Watching the enemy charge, Li Wei snorted and swung the sword cane in his right hand. Cold steel flashed, and the whistling blade sliced straight through the man's neck, taking off his head. Then it swept past like a slithering venomous snake, scattering the enemies nearby.
"Hi-yah!"
Seizing the opening, Katie charged forward with a cry and drove her fist into an enemy's chest. With a muffled bang like a tire bursting, the unfortunate man shot backward like a cannonball. Like a bowling ball, he slammed into his companions behind him, carrying them into a wall, where they went still.
"Whew... What a pain in the ass."
Only after killing the last enemy who stubbornly resisted did Li Wei catch his breath.
Just as the old gentleman had said, the farther they went in, the more fanatics they encountered. These people had no reason left whatsoever; they simply charged in to kill. Li Wei therefore stopped bothering to communicate with them and got straight to fighting.
Given his temperament, if he could, Li Wei would have left immediately and called in backup. Mechs, Steam Mech Troopers, airships, tanks-bring them all in and blast this damned place flat!
