"Sigh..."
Li Wei stood before the doors, looking speechless and forlorn.
He had known the Queen's afternoon tea wouldn't come without strings attached.
To be fair, living in the Empire did have its advantages. For one thing, meeting the Queen wasn't particularly stressful.
Li Wei had watched historical dramas, with all their talk of serving a ruler being like living beside a tiger, and entire families getting executed over a single wrong word. By comparison, the Empire's Queen was quite reasonable. At least she wouldn't drag you out and behead you for saying the wrong thing.
But her habit of constantly finding work for him was really exasperating.
Take this time, for example. They had been enjoying afternoon tea, and the Queen had thanked Li Wei for the rescue operation. Then she had abruptly changed the subject...
"Louise tells me you can identify objects with unusual properties?"
And so Li Wei had followed the Old Butler here.
"This is the Royal Treasury, Sir Li Wei."
The Old Butler stood before Li Wei, smiling pleasantly at him, while Li Wei looked utterly speechless.
"So Her Majesty wants me to go through the entire treasury and gather up all the dangerous stuff?"
"Of course, if anything catches your eye, you may take it with you."
"What would I even do with this stuff...?"
Li Wei honestly couldn't tell whether the Queen was rewarding him or setting him up. According to her, he could take everything he wanted.
But the question was, what use did Li Wei have for any of it?
He couldn't eat it or drink it...
If anyone asked him, he would rather get a raise or something. No, forget it. A raise meant more work too...
Li Wei was beginning to understand how the Queen had brought the Empire
