"Ahhh... I'm so bored!"
Katie flopped onto the sofa and rolled around in sheer boredom.
"It's so boring without Mr. Li Wei here!"
"The master went to a banquet. You know that, Miss Katie."
Erin deftly set a plate of desserts and some tea down for Katie.
"I remember he invited you, too."
"Well, I'm not interested in those aristocratic banquets, so I didn't go. If I'd known, I would've gone. Maybe something fun is happening over there right now..."
"Something fun?"
"Exactly! Like a case! Famous detectives always have cases, don't they? Maybe something will happen there, and then Mr. Li Wei and I can solve it. That would be much more fun!"
"Uh..."
Faced with Katie's enthusiastic chatter, Erin couldn't decide whether to agree or object.
After all, they had invited Li Wei to a banquet. Surely it wouldn't be good if something happened...
"Meooow!"
Just then, a sudden screech rang out, and a kitten came racing over from the other end of the room, yowling as it ducked behind Katie. At the same time, a puppy ran over and barked insistently at her.
"What's wrong, Buck? Have you been bothering Betty again?"
Katie curiously picked up the kitten nestled against her. Its name was Buck, and it belonged to Kia, the girl who had only recently moved in. It was an adorable kitten, but for some reason, it and Betty the Puppy didn't get along at all. Basically, Buck was always picking fights with Betty, despite being no match for her. Every time, Betty pinned it to the floor and gave it a thorough beating.
In the end, it could only run off pitifully and hide behind someone else.
