Getting deep underground was no easy task. The Eye of the Sky circled the mountain twice before Li Wei finally decided to enter through a cave near the summit. He had no idea what was inside, but that cave seemed to be the closest entrance to the strange thing below.
"All right, we'll stick to the plan."
Standing in front of the Descent Pod, Li Wei addressed the others.
"Once Katie and I go down, secure the Descent Pod up here, then keep your distance and stand by for my orders. Have the lookouts watch our surroundings, too. Contact me immediately if anything changes nearby. Remember, just keep your altitude within five hundred meters of the ground."
"Sir, I believe it would be safer if we went with you."
Henry patted the steam-powered machine gun in his hands.
"If you run into trouble, we could help deal with it."
"If I need your help, I certainly won't hesitate to ask. But this time is different."
Li Wei shrugged.
"I can sense that the thing down there is big. Very big. It's not something we can deal with using ordinary weapons. In fact, we're not going down there to kill it, because the two of us alone couldn't possibly do that. Our job is to lure it out, then let the Eye of the Sky hit it head-on. You wouldn't attack a battleship with those machine guns, would you? Same principle. Without enough firepower, we probably won't be able to destroy it."
"But..."
"Besides, it'll be easier for Katie and me to get away on our own. Your steam-powered Mecha is sturdy, but it's too slow for this operation."
