"Dad, time to get up!"
When Alice woke Li Wei again, it was already morning. He turned his head and saw Alice and Sophia leaning over the bed, watching him curiously. Beside them, the puppy was copying them as usual, its little front paws resting on the edge of the bed and its tail wagging nonstop.
"Hey, Alice, Sophia. Good morning-"
Li Wei waved to them, then sat up with a yawn. He hadn't slept well during the past few days away, and after returning yesterday, he had gone to bed early. At last, he'd enjoyed a proper, comfortable night's sleep.
Of course, Alice and the others had no idea what Li Wei had been doing. They simply assumed he'd gone out to solve a case, as he usually did. War was still something far too remote for children.
"Good morning, Dad!"
"Good morning, Mr. Li Wei-"
Alice greeted Li Wei with boundless energy, while Sophia hurried to greet him too. Then the two girls exchanged smiles, took each other's hands, and giggled as they turned and ran downstairs. The puppy gave Li Wei two barks, then wagged its tail and chased after them.
Li Wei got up, stretched, and changed his clothes before making his leisurely way downstairs.
By the time he reached the hall, everyone else was already waiting for him.
"Good morning."
Li Wei greeted Kia, the Little Mermaid, and Erin, then sat down.
"Good morning, Mr. Li Wei."
Of everyone there, Kia was the most curious about the war.
"How are things at the front?"
"Not bad. At least for now, it looks like the Empire doesn't intend to attack Cront right away."
Li Wei answered Kia's question while eating the fried egg on his plate.
"I see-then it looks like Grandpa will have to wait
