When Lieutenant General Von Ryan learned of the Giant Legion's defeat, he felt as though the sky had collapsed.

Clearly, all of this was a trap laid by the Empire! What he needed to think about now was not how to win, but how to preserve his corps' fighting strength!
The order soon went out, and Kront's troops began withdrawing. The Empire did not pursue its victory, either. In truth, its own losses had been just as devastating. Not pursuing would keep that hidden; if they gave chase, there was no telling who would have the last laugh.
When Commander French emerged from the fortress, he saw a city riddled with devastation, a handful of surviving Mecha, and utterly exhausted soldiers. He watched as a thin, gaunt soldier ran over and saluted him.
"Sir, the enemy has retreated. Also... Sir Li Wei asked me to pass along a message."
"Sir Li Wei? Is he all right?"
French immediately grew anxious. He knew that Li Wei had piloted a Mecha and led the others from the front. Seeing that he had not come himself made French's heart sink.
Had he been wounded? Was he receiving treatment? How serious were his injuries?
"Sir Li Wei is fine. He asked me to tell you that he has his own business to attend to, and he's leaving things here in your hands."
"And then?"
