Fog was a fairly common prop in horror movies. Its main purpose was to have the protagonists spot something in the mist as they walked along, then discover a little later that one of their companions had vanished into it without a sound.

Fortunately, Li Wei had not run into anything that unpleasant. Or rather, although he had prepared himself for it, none of the things he had expected had happened along the way.

Of course, that also had something to do with the environment here. Only after entering did Li Wei realize that this was not the sort of dense fog seen in movies, where you could not see your hand in front of your face or tell a person from an animal a yard away. A moment later, he emerged from the fog again and appeared in front of Katie and Elizabeth.

"All right, now we know. This place lets you in, but it won't let you out."

Looking at the girls and the familiar path before him again, Li Wei was not surprised in the slightest. In fact, he felt relieved.

At least it operated in a way he understood, even if it only allowed entry and not escape.
