When Li Wei returned to the surface with Katie and Elizabeth, the quiet outside had vanished, replaced by a bustling scene.
"Well, damn. Would you look at that."
Li Wei looked out through the window and could not help marveling.
The once-deserted streets outside were now packed with people.
Well, strictly speaking, they could not really be called people.
At least, not living people.
Zombies and animated skeletons filled the streets. For a moment, Li Wei wondered whether he had crossed over into the fantasy world of Dungeons & Dragons.
Was he up against a necromancer this time? He didn't know Sunburst, either.
But that was not what surprised Li Wei. The moment he saw these undead creatures, he activated [Soul Sight]. Contrary to his expectations, they did not glow red all over. Instead, they remained utterly devoid of light, just as proper corpses should.
This puzzled Li Wei. Looking more closely, he finally noticed crimson spirit threads attached to the undead creatures' heads. That was rather similar to his own [Puppeteer] ability.
But whoever was behind this was clearly far more capable than he was as a Puppeteer. By Li Wei's rough count, there were nearly a hundred Skeleton Monsters and Zombies here, and every thread controlling them came from the mountain.
No wonder his earlier search with [Soul Sight] had turned up nothing. Clearly, this fellow normally kept the corpses buried underground, where they were simply dead bodies. Only when they were needed did the controller use some special method to animate them and launch an attack.
That reminded Li Wei of the Haunted House from his very first joint investigation. The Big-Headed Baby inside had attacked in the same way, though this opponent seemed like an upgraded, more advanced version.
"Whoa! What do we do now, Mr.
