It was another ordinary day.
Hannah Miller sat at the counter, idly leafing through the documents in her hands. As the archives custodian at the Kingdom of Kront Biological Research Institute, she had very little to do each day. Her work consisted almost entirely of dozing behind the counter and occasionally helping researchers find reference materials. The workload was light, and the pay was excellent.
Older women might have loved this job. They could sit here knitting and gossiping to pass the time. But Hannah was still young, and she had no desire to waste her youth sitting around. If possible, she wanted a romantic encounter, too, a chance to meet a man who would capture her heart.
Unfortunately, the institute's researchers were all hopelessly dull. Of course, some did try to court Hannah, but one look at their bald heads was enough to kill her interest.
Perhaps she should find another job. This one paid well, but she never got to interact with outsiders. The Biological Research Institute was a highly important facility, after all, and Hannah hardly ever saw anyone from outside. The researchers themselves were no fun, either.
But if she told her father she wanted to change jobs...
"Hello, miss."
Just then, a voice sounded beside Hannah. She instinctively raised her head and looked toward it.
In that instant, Hannah felt as though her dull, dreary world had suddenly filled with light.
A young, handsome man in a white lab coat stood at the counter, smiling at her. His gaze held a captivating charm. Merely having his eyes on her made Hannah's heart pound uncontrollably. She stared at him, unable to speak for a long moment.
"Miss? Are you all right?"
"I..."
With her last shred of reason, Hannah swallowed the words "marry me" and blinked.
