Night fell.
Li Wei lay on the hill, watching the brightly lit camp below through his scope. Unlike the Cront of the other world, this world's Cront still relied on machinery for everything except its Chimeras.
Actually, the other world's Cront had power-generating equipment too. Li Wei had heard Delinte mention something called a Bio-Battery. It both generated and stored electricity. The only problem was that it needed vast quantities of food to convert into energy.
To Li Wei, this was where biotechnology fell short of mechanical technology. People couldn't eat coal essence, so there was no problem burning it to boil water. But people needed food. If some natural disaster caused a food shortage, not only would they have nothing to eat, they would also have to compete with that world's "biological machines" for food.
That would be a serious problem.
Fortunately, though, it wasn't his world's problem.
Li Wei watched the camp below. Jeanne had already crept silently to its outskirts, avoiding the searchlights and concealing herself in the shadows.
She looked like a well-trained, battle-hardened warrior.

In the blink of an eye, several searchlights around the camp went out completely. Soon, the entire camp was plunged into darkness. Through [Soul Sight], Li Wei could see soldiers running out of the camp, holding flashlights and looking around.
