The ice shattered.
The demon abruptly opened its eyes and looked around, glaring viciously before turning its gaze forward. Not far in front of it stood a little girl who barely reached its knees, staring at it with wide eyes.
A mortal?

The demon grinned savagely at the girl before letting out an enraged roar. Its bellow echoed all around like thunder. Mere mortals would wet themselves in terror just from hearing it!
But to the demon's surprise, the girl wasn't frightened by its roar. Instead, she clapped excitedly and even jumped up and down.
"Wow, this one's really fierce! And loud!"
What's wrong with this mortal? Isn't she afraid of me? Or has she already been scared out of her mind?
Before the demon could figure out what was happening, the girl came skipping toward it.
