"I really don't understand what this Count Caroy is thinking."
Sprawled across the desk, Katie looked utterly exasperated. She fiddled with an ornament Li Wei had left on it while offering her opinion.
"He doesn't really think we won't attack him just because he lays down his weapons, does he?"
"What do you think?"
Li Wei took a sip of sparkling water and asked Katie with a smile. His question caught her off guard.
"What do I think? Well, if they really laid down their weapons, I'd honestly feel bad about attacking them-but if they think that means I won't attack them, that would make me really angry!"
Katie puffed out her cheeks. Her thoughts actually reflected those of most imperial citizens. Many felt that if Shabak really disarmed and laid down its weapons, attacking it would be somewhat unreasonable. After all, the Empire was a great civilization with thousands of years of history. Surely it had some dignity to maintain.
But no one would be happy if someone exploited that to manipulate them.
It was like those webnovels where a protagonist of humble birth insulted a highborn noble in public. Mindful of their status, the noble usually refrained from confronting the protagonist in front of everyone.
From the protagonist's perspective, that sort of scene was satisfying. From the noble's perspective, however, it was infuriating. It was nothing more than moral blackmail.
Especially since, in the Empire's eyes, the Sasha Alliance was already a meal on its plate. Now they were putting on this act to stop it from eating?
So I'm really supposed to leave it alone?
Who do you think you are?
But if I eat it, doesn't that mean I've lost all dignity?
"In my opinion, the Empire probably won't move against Shabak anytime soon."
